I have an hp 15-dk0096wm gaming laptop and last year it worked perfectly fine untill one day a game wouldnt launch and it became slow i factory reset it and tried everything i could and it is still really slow. I used to be getting about 120-200 on a game and now i only get 30 plugged in or not it is the same but it seems to be faster when it is not plugged in which is odd.
If anyone knows what to do please help i am willing to do anything just to get it normal again.

Hi @Kadinn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15-dk0096wm gaming laptop is running slow, there could be several reasons behind this issue. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and possibly resolve the problem.

  • Check for Background Processes: Make sure there are no resource-heavy applications or processes running in the background. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager and check for any applications using a significant amount of CPU, memory, or disk resources. Close unnecessary applications to free up system resources.
  • Check for Malware: Malware or viruses can significantly slow down your computer. Run a full system scan using a reputable antivirus program to check for any malicious software. If any threats are detected, remove them and restart your computer.
  • Update Operating System and Drivers: Ensure that your Windows operating system and all drivers are up-to-date. Manufacturers often release updates to improve system performance and stability. You can check for updates through Windows Update and the HP Support Assistant (if installed).
  • Check Storage Space: Low disk space can cause your computer to slow down. Check your hard drive's available space and delete unnecessary files to free up storage.
  • Manage Startup Programs: Disable unnecessary startup programs that can slow down your computer's boot time. You can do this by opening the Task Manager, going to the "Startup" tab, and disabling programs you don't need to start automatically.
  • Check for Overheating: Overheating can lead to performance throttling. Make sure your laptop's cooling system is working correctly, and the vents and fans are not blocked. Consider using a cooling pad to help reduce temperatures during intense gaming sessions.
  • Adjust Power Settings: Sometimes, power-saving settings can impact performance. Set your power plan to "High Performance" to ensure your laptop is using its full potential when needed.
  • Check for Background Services: Some services running in the background may not show up in the Task Manager. To investigate further, press Win + R, type "msconfig," and press Enter. In the System Configuration window, go to the "Services" tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft services" box, and disable any unnecessary third-party services. Be cautious and do not disable essential system services.
  • Upgrade Hardware: If your laptop's performance is still not satisfactory, consider upgrading its hardware components, such as adding more RAM or upgrading to a faster SSD.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, if the performance issues persist and you've tried everything else, you can perform a factory reset. However, keep in mind that this will erase all your data, so be sure to back up your important files before proceeding.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
