HP Slim Desktop - S01-pF1048xt
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought a HP slim desktop (S01 PF1048xt) for internet, word, excel, etc. but am no looking to upgrade the graphics card.  Will the geforce 1050 ti low profile card work in this pc?  Or does it draw too much power?

@dmwarner3,

Your HP Slim Desktop - S01-PF1048xt (3UR16AA) according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-slim-desktop-pc-s01-pf1000i/32482421/model/34748914/document... is fitted with a 180-watt power supply, and a GTX 1050 Ti requires at least a 300-watt power supply.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

@dmwarner3,

Unfortunately, your BakerMS (SSID: 8768) motherboard in your desktop is of the HP proprietary kind. It has a 4-pin power connector instead of an industry standard 24-pin ATX power connector. You will have to buy any PSU upgrade from HP -if there are any. You may want to contact HP Customer Support to see if they do.

@dmwarner3,

According to: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model..., the "Baker" motherboard is compatible with this OEM HP 400-watt power supply: L69242-800 (has a PCIe 6+2-pin power cable), but it is unclear to me if this PSU is compatible with your BakerMS motherboard and/or would even fit in your slimline desktop.

It would be nice if HP Customer Support would be able to give you a straight answer, but that is to be seen.

Thanks.  It does look like the GTX 1030 low profile card would work though.  Do you agree with this?

@dmwarner3,

A GT 1030 with 2GB of SDDR4 has a power draw of 20 watt, and the GT 1030 with 2GB of GDDR5 has a power draw of 30 watt.  I would say that should work with your 180 watt power supply, even though Nvidia recommends a 300-watt power supply: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/gt-1030/specifications/.

if you don't need a powerful graphics card, which seems to be the case, for the indicated use, check

@dmwarner3,

Objectively, the GT 730 is at the bottom of the barrel.  The GT 1030 provides about the minimum of graphics performance you should find acceptable to have any kind of graphics card installed in your desktop.
