HP Compaq 6300 PRO MT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I have a HP Compaq 6300 PRO MT with a 320 W PSU and I want to upgrade the graphics card to a GTX 1050 ti card. I have a 500GB HD and 16GB of RAM.

Can this be done using the PCI-e (x16) only?

I am looking to buy a card that does not need AUX power.

@RaveyDavey , welcome back to the forum.

Here is the Illustrated Parts & Service Guide for the computer: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04034231

If you look at Page 2 in the section titled "Other boards" there is a list of compatible video cards.  These cards have been fully tested to assure they are compatible with the motherboard.  Your computer was released in either 2012 or 2013.  If your computer is from 2012, you should check to assure that it has UEFI in the motherboard instead of a standard/Legacy BIOS: https://www.howtogeek.com/56958/HTG-EXPLAINS-HOW-UEFI-WILL-REPLACE-THE-BIOS/

HP began using UEFI in mid-October, 2012.  If you don't have UEFI the card won't work.

If you do have UEFI in the motherboard, here is a card that should work for you: https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-gtx-1050-ti-4gt-lp/p/N82E16814137081

It only requires 300W to operate properly and requires no supplemental power.  I say should work for you because you are adding a newer product to an older computer.

I suggest that you contact the manufacturer's Tech Support for help with any card that you choose.
