Hi everyone,
I'm currently upgrading my HP OMEN X 900-002ns and would appreciate your help confirming whether a new motherboard I’m considering will be fully compatible with the case — which, as you know, has a unique cube-style layout.
My current configuration:
Motherboard: Munich-S (uATX, 24 x 24 cm)
Chipset: Intel Z170
Socket: LGA 1151
RAM: 32 GB DDR4 2133 MHz (4x8 GB)
Slots: 2 x PCIe x16, 1 x M.2 Key M, 1 x M.2 Key A
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
GPU: ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER OC
PSU: Corsair RM850x ATX 3.1 850W
Case: HP OMEN X 900-002ns (cube-shaped design)
I want to upgrade the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, and the combo I’m considering is:
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790M MORTAR WIFI (mATX)
CPU: Intel Core i7-13700KF
RAM: DDR5 6000 MHz (32 GB)
My questions:
Will this MSI motherboard physically fit inside the HP OMEN X 900-002ns case?
My main concern is the rear I/O panel, which might not align properly with the unique angled I/O shield area of the cube chassis. Is it possible to remove or modify the I/O shield/back door of the OMEN X chassis to accommodate a new motherboard’s rear ports?
The angled rear panel design seems to be a potential obstacle, and I don’t know if it's modular or permanently fixed. If this motherboard won’t work, are there any high-performance alternatives that are fully compatible with the HP OMEN X 900-002ns case?
My goal is to keep the original chassis while giving the system a top-tier performance upgrade, especially to support the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER I’ve already installed.
Any help or advice based on your own experience would be incredibly appreciated!
Thanks in advance 😊

Greetings @ramix94
Welcome to the HP Forum.
The Omen X case was sold separately by HP when it was released for sale. HP now sells the Omen 45L case , which complies to industry standards, separately.
This would suggest the Omen X can do standard components provided the components fit in the case.
A uATX (mATX) MB should work such as the MSI MAG Z790M MORTAR WIFI (mATX)
The Omen X case is angular.
But the rear I/O opening should be flat and rectangular to accommodate standard case I/O shields. No unusual angles.
HP (I hope) would not retail this case as a standalone item if the rear I/O opening was modified in any way.
The Z790 MB and associated rear I/O shield should work with the Omen X case.
