Trying to boot up my HP Omen 40L and it’s stuck on a black screen. The HP logo pops up first and then goes to a black screen where the loading wheel cursor from the mouse is only visible.

Your PC may have a hardware problem or Windows is corrupted.

 

Check your PC's hardware, if this is possible, by using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

 

Let the Forum know if your PC can run HP's hardware tests at startup.

 

Fixing corrupted Windows boot files is a hit and miss proposition.

 

I hope you are routinely backing up data. You may have to reinstall Windows.

 

I can try to provide a way to get to the WinRE if hardware tests pass. You might be able to do a system restore or try other fixes using WinRE. Fixing a corrupted Windows Registry would not be possible.

 

There is a YouTube video available showing how to fix a corrupted Windows GPT Boot Manager if this is your PC's problem.

 

Let the Forum know if hardware tests pass.

I appreciate it and thank you for the help! I ran all the diagnostics tests and everything passed. I ended up just doing a reset and reinstalling window. Do you think a recent driver install/update could have caused this? Also, at one point i did receive a CMOS error. Time and date were correct on the BIOS screen so I didn’t think anything was wrong with it. Could it still have been the CMOS battery that caused the original problem?

Since hardware tests passed and you were able to reinstall Windows the PC should be okay.

 

A HP update or a Windows update could have caused this problem.

 

The CMOS error might have caused the problem.

 

Check this HP Site for CMOS error troubleshooting if your PC has a problem in the future. This second HP Site also has additional troubleshooting tips.
