Far as I can tell it's up to date.

But didn't need to try that

Turning off fast booting did the trick.

Ordering the ram you recommended.

While I'm at it...

Is there a 1tb ssd you could recommend for this pc?

And again, thank you so much for all your help. I'm going to try installing the h60 again once the cleaning supplies come in as I just kinda... put the old heat sink back in without redoing the thermal paste. So I'm gonna be careful until then.

Whew! Glad that parts over. 😁

Really any good name brand NVMe will work. I go with the best bang for buck usually.

Samsung is the top dog of the M.2 drives. But a Crucial, Sandisk, Kingston, Intel, Western Digital, Sabrent are all good brands.

Here are two that I would use if it was my system...

https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-1TB

or the tried and true...

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-1TB

Which ever one, be sure to register it right away so your warranty will extend the full 5 years.

Make sure to watch some of the top you tubers explain applying Thermal Paste, to give you an idea how to do it.

Here's a few if you have the time...

Oh and on the Bios update. If you're updated already, then you're good to go there. In the future, dont let the HP Support Assistant update the bios. Its ok for the rest of the drivers but you want to download the bios exe file and run it manually from your drivers page on the HP website. But only if you must.

Just a heads up.

What screwdriver do I need to install the ssd?

I've tried normal tools and some precision ones, nothing moves that screw

HP Recommended

Should be a Phillips #1. Sounds like someone screwed it in too tight. If so, a small handled driver wont give you enough leverage. I use a med sized #1 from my cheap Harbor Freight electricians set and it fits fine.

Remember righty tighty, lefty loosey.  Counter clockwise to loosen.

I'm not sure if its a p1 screw... I've just tried a new medium sized p1 screwdriver... and nothing. Won't budge.

Further, here is the ssd I got:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MTQTNVR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Could it work with this external case:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZKB4SLK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

And if it does, would games installed on the drive work?

I'm starting to doubt that I'll be able to install it in the m2 slot at all at this point.

Whoa!   Of course you cant get a screw driver in that now. You stripped it out.

You will have to get creative and dremel it, drill it out or such if you ever want to use it.

Considering everything, you might want to stop at this point and take it to a shop.  😵

Here is a video of one guy who carefully got his out.

Huh?

I'm not sure where you're getting the internet thing from...

the I was showing you the SSD drive I bought...

and an external case I was considering getting for it.

So... would those items work together?

HP Recommended

sorry Im tired. Mixed yours up with another thread.

Yes that case will work for the m.2.

Thank you for all of your help so far but... there is a huge problem now...

After correctly installing the h60 cooler...

The pc won't start at all now...

I've tried different graphics cards, same result... those infernal beeps... 3 long 3 short...

I'm guessing motherboard or at least the graphics card connector is borked isn't it?

Is there any way I could just install a new connector for the graphics card on the motherboard or do I have to get a new one?
