HP Pavilion GTX 1650 stuk a300mhz and 167W power draw

. MSI afterburner, GPU-Z and nvidia performance tracker all show the same statistics. I have reset my pc, did not work. I installed DDU, cleaned and uninstalled graphics card, and installed the laptop's official graphics driver, still did not work. Plugged it into a different monitor and forced the 2nd display to only show, still nothing. I am dumbfounded, tired and confused. I don't know what cause this, and I don't know what else to do. Some say it could be the bios and I need to update it

Hi @DAVIDBake ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your GPU is stuck at low-performance levels, which can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that your power settings are set to "High Performance" or a similar setting.
  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select "High Performance."

Update BIOS:

  • Updating your BIOS can sometimes resolve compatibility and performance issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest BIOS update for your specific model.
  • Follow the instructions carefully to update the BIOS. This process usually involves downloading the update, running an installer, and rebooting your computer.

Check for Throttling:

  • Overheating can cause the GPU to throttle down to lower performance levels. Ensure your laptop is properly ventilated and not overheating.
  • Use tools like HWMonitor to check your GPU temperatures.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Sometimes, resetting the BIOS to its default settings can resolve hardware issues. Enter the BIOS setup during boot (usually by pressing F2, F10, Esc, or Del depending on your laptop) and select the option to reset to default settings.

NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:

  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Go to Manage 3D settings > Global Settings.
  • Set the Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance.

Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that there are no other software or background applications that might be interfering with the GPU's performance.
  • Try running your system in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it does not, a background application or service might be causing the issue.

Clean Install of GPU Drivers:

  • Since you’ve already used DDU to clean your drivers, make sure you reinstall the latest drivers from NVIDIA's official website.
  • Sometimes, the latest drivers directly from NVIDIA can resolve issues that the OEM drivers might not.

Inspect Physical Connections:

  • Ensure that your GPU is properly seated in its slot. If you're comfortable, you can open up your laptop and check the physical connections.
  • Make sure there is no dust or debris in the GPU slot.

Test with Another GPU (if possible):

  • If you have access to another GPU, test it in your laptop to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the GPU or another component of your system.

Check PSU (Power Supply Unit):

  • Ensure that your power supply is delivering sufficient power to the GPU. A failing PSU can cause performance issues.
  • If possible, test with another PSU.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
