Product: HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0021no
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion Gaming - TG01-0021no with the latest bios currently available. I'm dualbooting Ubuntu Linux which I was specifically told by the store where I bought it was supported. However I'm  having problems with the AMD RDRAND bug witch is explained here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/10/how-a-months-old-amd-microcode-bug-destroyed-my-weekend/

Minecraft for instance wont start at all and they say: "This issue seems to happen to AMD Ryzen 3rd geneneration CPU:s in combination with Linux. Performing a BIOS update should repair your system."

AMD says the fix has been released ages ago, but it has to be implemented by the vendor via a bios upgrade, and I'm wondering if such an update is coming for this motherboard?

Not a Linux user per say, but looking at the bios updates notes for your particular Motherboard (Erica), there is no mention of that fix. Only other fixes pertaining specifically to HP issues for memory, S3 states and such.

 

I can only assume HP did not incorporate any Linux fixes into  your system at all. HP does not "support" Linux at all on any of the current Consumer models for many years now. Only Windows OS is supported and thus only Windows appropriate fixes will be implemented.  There are only a few of HP's high end Enterprise class systems for business that might support Linux.  The salesman assumed HP did since their goal is to make a sale and is not correct.
