Hello, I use windows 11(this POS site doesn’t let me select it) and I am trying to upgrade my ram but the empty slot says DDR1 and the DDR5 ram stick I got does not fit and Google says that DDR1 with a modern windows 11 laptop is impossible so what ram is compatible with this thing?

Edit: to it turns out that it was DDR5 inside the system already but it was a different DDR5 than what I got if that makes sense so it’s resolved

Hi @Markkelly99

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for the update—and I completely understand the confusion. RAM compatibility can be surprisingly tricky, especially when physical fit and generation labeling don’t line up the way they should.

It’s good to hear the situation is resolved.

If you ever plan to expand again, matching the speed, voltage, and form factor is key. You can find compatible modules listed in HP’s official memory upgrade guide.

Glad you got it sorted—and if you ever need help with BIOS recognition, dual-channel setup, or optimizing performance, I’ll be here to assist.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,
