HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0048no #7GU07EA

I would like to know if my pc can be upgraded. The model I have is HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0048no Product number (7GU07EA)
It currently has 1660 ti, 16GB ram, 512gt m.2,  i5 9400F, 310W Power supply. I understand that there is possibilities to buy 400w and 500w power supply that work with the 690 models but I am not sure which is the best graphic card I can add on to them. I've seen some people add 2060 Super which should work with the 400w but I was wondering if its possible to add 2070 super or maybe even 2080 with the 500w power supply. Thanks in advance!

@RRuuben , welcome to the forum.

Here is a Power Supply Cross-Reference chart for your computer: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model...

Your exact model is not represented in the chart, but all of the power supplies that are listed for the 690 series will work in it.  There is a 500W (L05757-800) that will work.

I checked the RTX 2060 Super and 2070 Super and they both require 550W and 650W to operate properly:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2060-super/?ncid=afm-chs-44270&ranMID=44270&...

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2070-super/?ncid=afm-chs-44270&ranMID=44270&...

The fastest card that will work with the 500W PSU is the GTX 1070 Ti: https://www.nvidia.com/en-sg/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1070-ti/?ncid=afm-chs-44270&ranMI...

It will be a good performance boost over the GTX 1060 Ti that came with the computer.

Here is a HP Knowledge Base article that will tell you what to be aware of when upgrading your video card: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Knowledge-Base/Upgrade-Video-Card/ta-p/7481981

Your motherboard has the UEFI.  So, this is not a problem for you.

Hey @Old_geekster thanks!

So with the 500w power supply I could run the 1070 Ti, but not better cards? i was looking at this video before I came here with extra questions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6smx98BLU0 . The guy has almost the identical pc as me but he is adding a 2060 super to a 400w power supply and has no errors it seems. So u might understand why I'm a bit confused here is the guy not telling me something? Will the graphic card get damaged due to low power?  Because I have the 1660 ti which is recommended to have 450w power supply and my pc has 310w.

I also found the models 400w (L04618-800) and the 500w (L05757-800)

So that's why I'm wondering if there is any possibilities to run either 2070 super or 2080 with the 500w. Can anyone clear this one for me? 😄

With the exact same Pavilion computer I am running RTX 2070 and I7 9700F, the PSU is the stock 400W and the total power draw at the wall is around 280W, so you have plenty of headroom to do the same upgrade. RTX 2070 and 2060Super have about the same power consumption, fyi.

Do a search on YT, I have a big number of videos covering those Pavilion versions, in both Intel and AMD configurations and the new 30L.

Thanks for the answer! I found your channel and found some nice info from there. Now I got all the info I need but still Im wondering that is it possible to run a 2080 super with the i5 9400F using a 500w  (PSU L05757-800) ?

I wish that I have one of those small from factor RTX 2080S to test with.

I hope u get a chance to test a 2080 so we both can get some answers. If anyone else has any experience with the 2080 models please enlighten us! 🙂
