Hey so I currently have a HP VICTUS 15 Ryzen 5 5600H RTX 3050TI model fb0xxx 8 gb ram(1600mhz) Ddr4 512 gb storage , 4 months old.

Can you upgrade the laptop ram into Ddr5? If so can you also change the mhz from 1600 to 2800 or even 3200, I'm planning on buying a Kingston or a hyperx for gaming, 3d blender editing, animation like that. Are there gonna be issues if I changed my ddr4 into a ddr5??? +++ My laptop came with ddr4 8 gb ram and I still haven't upgrade anything, just playing and editing.

Pls answer cause some say in the reddit hp victus that you can't change and there are gonna be many issues when coming from ddr4 to ddr5.

Hi:

You can't install DDR5 memory in a notebook that uses DDR4 memory and here's why:

DDR5 memory runs at a lower voltage than DDR4.

DDR5 memory has a different number of contact pins than DDR4 memory has and the notch in the DDR5 memory circuit board is cut in a different place than it is in a DDR4 memory chip, making it impossible for a DDR5 memory chip to even fit in a DDR4 memory slot, so 'there are gonna be many issues when coming from ddr4 to ddr5,' would be an understatement,.

Your notebook can support 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 CL22 memory.

A single DDR4 3200 memory chip will run at 1600 MHz but installing two matching memory chips in each slot will allow the memory to run in dual channel mode (3200 MHz).

It will still show up as 1600 but now you multiply that speed by two (for each channel) to get 3200.

Below is the link to the service teardown video for your notebook:

Hi @jynllndr

What CPU-Z shows you is the clock speed of the RAM, but if you look at the Task Manager, you will see that the speed is 3200 MT/s, which is the actual data transfer rate per clock cycle (one full cycle).

It is wrong to confuse MHz with MT/s, but previously SDRAM memory had the same speed in Hz as data transfer MT/s, and memory manufacturers continued to use MHz with DDR memory.

For example, manufacturers such as Intel or AMD continue to use MT/s in their processors to correctly indicate the memory frequency supported by the CPU.

for example:

Intel® Core™ i5-1235U Processor

Next come the dual-channel ones, which are activated when there are two memories, and that depends on if the processor supports it.

In practice, it is the bandwidth. When a memory is in single channel, its bandwidth is 64 bits, and what happens when you add a second memory is that this doubles to 128 bits, which allows it to transfer more data. For example, a 3200 MT/s memory has this transfer rate in single channel.

3200 MT/s x 64 bit =204800 Mbps or 204,8 Gbps

Now, when you add a second memory, the transfer rate doubles, but this does not mean that the frequency doubles, rather the bandwidth.

3200 MT/s x 128 bit = 409600  Mbps or 409,6 Gbps.
