How do I know if this supports xmp

I don't have a 40L. So I can't provide a definitive answer.

Your PC's MB would not support XMP globally if you don't see this option in the BIOS. I have never seen a HP consumer PC having CPU overclocking options.

Omen Command Center might have something of interest to overclock HP factory installed memory.

It can be difficult, but not impossible, to do XMP on your MB when upgrading memory using many retail memory modules. Many retail memory modules, when installed in many HP MBs, will default to JEDEC speeds and timings.

Just letting you know in case you are thinking about a memory upgrade.
