I frequently to handle audio. I use a program named Virtual Serial Port Emulator.  The use this I need to find unused ports to build pairs different apps. What is the best way to find unused ports to use. Right now I have to just select and try ports to see if they can be used or give an error. Surely there is a faster and better way to search for unused ports.

I have an HP Gaming desktop model 790-0077c. Thanks for your responses and happy holidays!

@bladerunner1954

Its specs

   https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06175710

It only has

Figure : Berks back I/O ports

  1. Audio: Line in
  2. Audio: Line out
  3. Audio: Microphone
  4. DisplayPort
  5. HDMI out
  6. USB 2.0: 2
  7. USB 3.1: 4
  8. LAN (Ethernet)

New machines do not have COM port. I know they are selling USB-COM adapters/cables around. For example

Note: I used to use some different cables from different vendors and I found they were not swap able.

Regards.

No No No Let me clarify. Right now I am using two virtual audio lines. They use comport 4 and 14 and the other uses 5 and 15. I need to find some more and I need to know how to find available comports. I don't want to have to resort to just putting port numbers in and see if they fail or not. Surely, with all the apps out there. There is one that will tell you how many comports are free to use. Maybe I'm not using the correct terminology. :'))
