Hp Omen 880 aftermarket cooler help
08-20-2018 04:00 PM - edited 08-20-2018 04:26 PM

PC SPECS
Windows 10
Gtx 1070
i7 8700
12 GB RAM
I have a question with my pre-built hp omen 880 desktop. In game I find the temperatures get a little too high on the cpu for my liking (80c+) and I am considering putting a hyper 212 evo in place of the stock. Now, my main question is: Will that cooler fit in the case and on the tampa2 motherboard? Another side question is will I need to re-activate windows 10 if I remove the motherboard to assemble the cooler and need to re-connect everything. I have never fully built a pc but I have taken the easy parts out such as HDD, GPU, RAM but not the motherboard itself. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Edit: One last thing, the pc is still under warranty and im wondering if putting an after market cpu cooler in would void the warranty.

@Plank1, welcome to the forum.
I have concerns that the cooler will be to large to fit. I suggest that you get the measurements here and measure inside of the case.
I have an 880-160se and I don't believe that the cooler would fit into it. Please let me know what you find.

Thank you. I am unable to take proper measurements right now but the chassis specs is saying it has 192mm of width and the hyper 212 requires max 159mm but I am unsure how much of that 192 is taken up by the back panel and all. I am thinking it will fit with a fair bit of room to spare since I would need at minimum 15.9cm of width which for a pc case would be incredibly small but even still i'll try to take proper measurements when I can.

My concern stems from the fact that on my 880 there is a large fan that sticks out 38.1mm from the back of the case. If yours is the same, it could interfere with the new cooler, since the processor is directly behind the fan.
Personally, I wouldn't order the cooler until I took the measurements.
