I was looking to upgrade the CPU and was actually planning on going with the i7 9700F until I came across the i9 9900 at the same chipset and its also at 65w of power.
I know the i7 is compatible according to the HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0073w Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support page where it shows CPU compatibility.
My question is this, has anyone ever put the i9 into it? If so, what were the results? Did it work? should I just stick with the i7 as the page suggests?
Please give me some feedback.

@NYCKrash , welcome to the Community!
This Community is not like others where members lurk to see what is being posted. Normally, they come here to solve a problem and leave without returning. So, you may not get replies to your question. I will tell you that all of the processors listed in the "Processor upgrade information" have been tested to assure they are compatible with the motherboard. It is questionable that any processors not on the list will work. If you look at the Specifications for the 9900K the TDP is 95W.
Please click the Thumbs up + button if I have helped you and click Accept as Solution if your problem is solved.

hi
this does not change the problem, but the I9 9900 (not k) version in 65w
I almost answered yesterday, but I did not find the relevant answer, because not possible to affirm anything
There is a high risk that it will not work
but since I already had a surprise here, nothing is impossible!
Unfortunately, not the same computer!
Solved: Re: Possible to upgrade ENVY 32-A0055 to i9 processor? - HP Support Community - 8070627
Either it's ok, or a bios update might be needed, which I don't recommend, because of the risk of it crashing!
or nothing to do ..
It seems to me that you can use other fairly powerful models, it's up to you!

Thanks. Ill stick with the i7 and not chance it.
I am just waiting on the cost to come down on GPU's until I get one of them as well. Even used HP RTX 2060 are selling used for the cost of the entire machine, about 500 to 700 at least.
thanks for your reply.

"Even used HP RTX 2060 are selling used for the cost of the entire machine, about 500 to 700 at least."
I suppose that these are users, who have or want a rtx 3xxx, they are not given either, you have to find money
"400 W internal power supply "
it will be necessary to check if the power supply is sufficient for the chosen card
