I bought a hyper 212 Evo and managed to install the backplate onto my motherboard in my omen 880-p1xx pc. However, the retention bracket screws seem to not reach the backplate and instead is loose. Am I supposed to have the retention bracket in or have it off?

Greetings @AndrewHe1

I've never installed a 212 Evo in the HP 880 case and MB.

HP does the Intel square CPU socket backplate on both Intel and AMD MBs.

The Intel CPU socket backplate should fit securely to the back of the HP MB.

The provided 212 Intel mounting hardware should fit tight to the 212 backplate if the backplate is tight to the MB.

You won't see adequate CPU cooling if the air cooler cold plate is not firmly contacting the CPU heat shield.

Again, I don't have first hand experience with your PC's MB but I have installed a lot of CPU air coolers and AIO liquid coolers in retail: AMD MBs and Intel MBs.

Use all Intel mounting hardware even if you have an AMD MB.

Regards
