Hi,

I have tried all of that and nothing has worked. It seems that the update has damaged my SSD socket. I have bought an M.2 hard drive enclosure and now everything works as it should.

Hi @MelonG1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the image; it’s very helpful. Here’s what I see:

  • The screen shows system information (CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F, RAM: 16 GB, BIOS Revision: 02.07.04, Date: 11/10/2022).
  • At the bottom, it says:
“Press the ESC key for the startup menu”
and “System Recovery” in the corner.
  • This indicates the system is stuck at the POST screen after a BIOS update and is not responding to keyboard input.

Steps to Fix This

  1. Perform a Hard Reset
    • Power off the PC.
    • Disconnect the power cord.
    • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power and try again.

  2. Clear CMOS
    • Unplug the PC.
    • Open the side panel.
    • Locate the CMOS battery (silver coin cell).
    • Remove it for 5–10 minutes, then reinstall.
    • This resets BIOS settings.

  3. Use HP BIOS Recovery
    • Press and hold the Windows key + B, then press Power.
    • Keep holding Windows + B for 5–10 seconds until you hear beeps or see the recovery screen.
    • If successful, the BIOS will restore from the backup partition.

  4. Try USB BIOS Recovery
    • Download the latest BIOS for your model from HP Drivers & Downloads.
    • Create a recovery USB using HP’s instructions: HP BIOS Recovery.
    • Insert the USB and repeat the Windows + B steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @MelonG1,

Thank you for the update. I’m really glad to hear you found a workable solution, even though I completely understand how frustrating it must have been to reach that point.

It does sound like the update may have affected the SSD interface, and using an M.2 enclosure was a smart move to recover your data and keep things running smoothly.

If you need any help, please do keep us posted.
