Microsoft Windows 11

Back in august after I came returned off paternity leave for the military (3 months) I had realized that I couldn’t turn my pc back on. So easy fix, since I run a 3060 and I had a 500w psu I figured you know maybe it just couldn’t handle the amount of work it had to do anymore so I went and bought a 750w psu. After I put in the 750w it still wouldn’t turn on, so I had my buddy look at it with me and we decided to try the 500w psu again, lo and behold it turned on. So then we put the 750w in again and finally it turned on with it, so we kept it in there. Ever since then my pc has had an issue with turning back on when I shut it down, and the only reason I’ll shut it down is to give it a break after long days of streaming or I’ve been running it for a while. I’ve tried 2 different power cords to get it to turn back on and I’ve tried every trick that anybody on the internet has told me to try, I just need this pc to last for a little while longer until I completely upgrade everything in it and move to a new mobo and case. Any suggestions on what I could do to try to get it to turn on? I’ve messed with all the connections inside and everything possible.

Hi @only1swype

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Initial problem, PC would not power on. Current problem, PC turns on after a shutdown.

Did the PC power back on after a shutdown when using the HP 500 watt power supply after removing the 750 watt power supply and reinstalling the 500 watt power supply?

The MB provides the circuitry to tell the power supply to power on the PC and power off the PC depending on the current power state. This signal to the MB is controlled by the power button or the OS shutdown process.

So you could have a power button problem or an intermittent MB problem if you see the same symptom when using the HP 500 watt power supply.

I am not an electronics guru. This would be my guess given the symptoms you are providing.

You could try resetting the BIOS to defaults or remove the CR2032 MB battery to reset CMOS. The system power states are controlled by the BIOS.

Or, as previously stated, you may have a power button problem or a MB problem.
