Omen Obelisk HP desktop tower
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey guys,

My Omen Obelisk desktop is the computer I use for school work and I need it for my major. It's been great! However a day ago it started doing something super weird? When i'd turn it on the colorful LEDS inside of the tower that normally change color flash white once, and then the computer starts and everything seems to work fine. It only happens at start up and not after standby or restart. It's very strange. It sort of makes me anxious when it happens as well which is why I'd like to fix this. I attempted talking to Best Buy where i got it from and they were incredibly useless to the situation, and even rude. They directed me to HP and the HP assistant I spoke with was helpful, however he told me that if i mail it in and they can't find anything wrong with the computer itself that they won't fix it. I am very anxious to fix this as I need it for my major and it seems like no one has had this issue. I even tried googling it myself to see and found nothing! (Which has almost never happened before) i have unplugged, restarted, updated drivers etc. And still the same white flash at start up. I turned here hoping that maybe someone can lead me in a right direction =( thanks guys!

Hi @AmandaChewy

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist.

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Hard Reset -

1. Shut down the computer, then disconnect the power cord from the rear of the computer.
2. Press and hold down the power button for at least 10 seconds, then release it. The power light indicator might turn on briefly then go out.
3. Reconnect the power cord, then turn on the computer to confirm if the issue is resolved.

Step 2 BIOS Defaults -

1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3. Press F10 once for BIOS.
4. Press F9 for BIOS defaults.
5. Press F10 to save and exit.

Try updating the computer -

Step 3 Windows Updates -

1. In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.

2. Check for updates.

3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 4 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.

2. Check for updates.

3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, test the hardware -

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
