Hi @RIK261,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop suddenly shuts down and does not power on or charge, it could be due to several reasons, such as a power issue, battery problem, or internal hardware failure. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help diagnose and potentially fix the problem:

1. Check the Power Adapter and Cable

  • Ensure the power adapter is properly plugged into both the laptop and the wall outlet.
  • Check the adapter for any visible damage, such as fraying or cuts.
  • Plug another device into the same outlet to ensure it is working.Try a different wall outlet if possible.
  • Check the charging cable for any damage.
  • If you have another compatible charger, try using it to see if the issue is with the charger.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Power Off the Laptop: Press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to ensure the laptop is completely off.

Unplug the Power Adapter: Disconnect the power adapter from the laptop and the wall outlet.

Remove the Battery:

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
  • If the battery is not removable, skip this step.

Hold Power Button: With the battery removed (if applicable), press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. This helps to drain any residual power.

  • Reinsert the battery (if removed) and plug in the power adapter.
  • Try turning on the laptop again.

3. Check the Battery

  • If the battery is removable, take it out and then reinsert it to ensure it is properly connected.
  • If possible, try powering on the laptop with only the power adapter connected and the battery removed.

4. Inspect the Power Button:

  • Ensure the power button is not stuck or damaged.
  • Try pressing the power button gently to see if it responds.

5. Check for Any External Displays:

  • If you suspect the issue might be with the internal components, you can try connecting the laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue is with the laptop screen or the internal hardware.

6. Listen for Beep Codes:

  • When powering on the laptop, listen for any beep codes. Beep codes can indicate specific hardware issues.
  • Refer to your HP website for information on beep codes.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
