Hello , i want to upgrade my SSD to with my  Samsung 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe that i recently bought. The only problem is i did some recearch and found out that my current motherboard in my PC only supports Gen 3 SSD and technially 4 but i want my New SSD to be working at its full potential. If i can please get recommendations it would be a great help, Thank you!

Greetings @Richard0I

Yes, a Gen 4 SSD installed in a Gen 3 MB will run at Gen 3 read and write speeds.

This should not be a deal breaker unless you are always working with very large files.

Replacing a MB to get a faster PCIe pipeline, which is imperceptible to the eye, would not be cost effective.

I'm running some Gen 3 and Gen 4 SSDs on PCs which support Gen 5 drives. I've got no complaints.

Regards
