Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Nevermind. it works now.

I bought a WD Black SN 850 NVMe SSD to replace the one it came with. I used the Acronis program offered by WD to clone the drive.

after installing the new drive, the computer will not boot to windows. it will state that there is a problem and ask if i want to troubleshoot.

When i put back the original SSD, computer will boot to windows normally.

I did notice that the original SSD has 2 notches, i think called and M and B. the new ssd only has 1 notch.

thanks in advance

Hi:

Your PC must have originally come with a SATA M.2 SSD (two notches on either end of the drive).

You replaced it with a NVMe SSD, which should provide much faster sequential read/write speeds.

The problem is...SATA and NVMe drives use different drive controllers, which may be why the clone didn't work right.

I recommend that you either clean install W10 on your new NVMe SSD by making a bootable W10 installer with the media creation tool, or use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC onto the new SSD.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
