New cooler for HP Omen?

HP Recommended
HP Omen 880-120
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

To start off, I know very little about PC parts. Anyways, I just received the above model last night and was downloading/install several programs to test it out. While playing PUBG, I saw my CPU temps getting as high as 93 C which is concerning. GPU temps were fine. I am not sure why the CPU temp is as high as it is or what I should do to tackle this, but regrdless I am tempted to try to install a new CPU cooler. I am wondering if I can get help as to understanding what dimensions would be needed for a compatible CPU cooler for this case.

I am currently looking at the CRYORIG H7 Tower Cooler and Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO based off recommendations. But I do not know if these will be compatible.

Can anyone help with this, or suggest any other options I should be considering? Thanks!

@orphodoop, welcome to the forum.

The Tjunction Max for the i7-8700 is 100C.  Tjunction Max is the maximum temperature the cores can reach before thermal throttling activates.

Here are the specs for the i7-8700.  Also, Frequently Asked Questions About Temperatures for Intel Processors.

I have read on several websites, such as, Tom's Hardware, that the stock cooler should be enough to cool it nicely.  Read the information that I provided for further help.

I suggest monitoring the temps closely.  You should contact HP Customer Support it the temps continue to climb.
