Hi there
I just bought the Omen GT13 for my son, he wants to play competitive E-Sports.
I don't know if the product name is worldwide, so the main specs:
- AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900X
- HyperX® 32 GB DDR4-3200 MHz XMP RAM
- NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080
First of all, the delivery and the setup went great.
First problem: when I plug the ethernet cable in the RJ45-port of the mainboard, the ping is pretty bad (about 40-50 in Fortnite), with the older PC I got a 5-15 ping (same internet, same cable). I have a spare USB3-Ethernet adapter and when i plug it in there, the ping is a bit better, about 20-30ms.
Could it be that the ethernet card/port is of bad quality or why is there such a difference to the USB-Ethernet and to the old PC? Strangely, sometime there is no internet at all when connected to the USB-ethernet, it says no cable detected, that is weird too.
Would it be theoretically possible to change the mainboard in the Omen or is that not an option?
Second:
I would really appreciate any help to optimize my Omen. Where to get the drivers (on the HP homepage or better from the product itself), how to optimize the GPU? Will the GPU slow down if it is too hot...and so on. Just general help in terms of what HP does different or what I should look for.
Thank you so much!

Hello
to change the motherboard on a brand new HP computer?
it's not a very good idea
Hp makes great computers, but sometimes it doesn't turn out so well
In principle, I am not basing myself on the problems of the users who share their problems here
But there are too many messages, where we report overheating problems, performance etc.
You indicate that your son will compete
He'll probably play for hours and hours
It is already starting with problems.
Although I am an avid, and long-time HP user, in this case I prefer to give you the best options in my opinion.
Return the computer to the seller, get a refund
And turn to equipment that can better evolve!
find a site specializing in computer configuration, where you can choose the components.
Ask for help on gamer support sites specializing in computer assembly
Do not buy a ready-made computer from big brands like HP asus dell etc.
It is very good for certain points, and for occasional players, not for gamers!

thanks for your honest opinion, I really appreciate it.
His first computer (now the streaming PC) was a customized one, that did a great job but got a bit old now.
Now he's allowed to stream and we needed a new PC fast for a 2 PC setup.. The custom PCs right now are almost not available with good GPU because there are none to buy (3080, 3080TI, 3090). The only 3080 I could find was about 2'200 dollars the GPU alone (and I didn't pay that much for the entire Omen). So we were stuck wie a pre-built one. I got a great price on the HP because of my employer so I hope these problems don't occur. The ping is better now after a few tweaks and so far it runs smooth. I also ordered another PCI network card just to be safe.
"Fortunately" he plays Fortnite right now, I hope the overheating is not that big of a problem because it runs light on the PC. I'm in contact with a few resellers who wants to sponsor him with a new PC, so maybe he'll get a free one soon. Until then I hope it does it's job.
