My HP OMEN 16 is having random black-screen crashes. I’ve done all the standard fixes, updated Windows, drivers, and BIOS. The crashes happen while gaming and sometimes at idle. I also changed the charger, but no luck. I ran HP UEFI hardware and component tests and everything checks out. The laptop isn’t overheating, CPU temps stay around 50–55 °C at idle and 75–80 °C while gaming. I have HWiNFO installed and consistently monitor thermals. Event Viewer shows only Kernel-Power 41 with no other errors. This has been happening for about eight months occasionally, and it has increased recently.

Greetings @kingFisher08

Welcome to the HP Forum. Sawadee Krap 🙏 (Hello)!

Is your PC in warranty?

An Event Viewer Kernel Power 41 error is typically caused by: power problems, hardware issues, or flaky drivers.

You have:

- Updated: Windows components and all drivers

- Purchased a new HP external power brick

- Checked hardware

System temps look good.

I can only think your PC's MB may have a problem???

Check System Files:

Open an Admin command prompt as follows:

Open Search then enter "command prompt". Right-click on the search result.

Select "Run as Administrator".

Enter the following commands, one at a time. Wait for each command to complete before running the next command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth note: the PC must be connected to the network when using the DISM command.

Enter the next command to verify system files are okay.

sfc /scannow

Have you tried something like MemTest86 free to doublecheck check memory?

I'm not a Laptop super user. Maybe the Laptop Li-Ion battery is a point of interest???

W11 has an in-place upgrade option if you are interested. A hardware problem would be confirmed if the PC is unstable after doing a W11 in-place upgrade.

Or back up data. Do a clean Windows installation.

Regards

I am facing a very similar issue. Bought the laptop not more than 14 days ago, installed all of the latest drivers - as suggested by the HP Support Assistant and double checked on the online HP Driver page. Updated BIOS, loaded up the latest NVIDIA Game drivers, thrice, as per the update schedule. Windows has been updated to include the latest patches, updates etc.

I have hardly installed any applications, apart from the absolute necessary items- AVG Antivirus, Google Chrome, K-Lite Codec Pack, Trading View etc. Loaded up Steam as well on the first weekend of receiving delivery to test out the performance.

Not more than 5-10 mins into running Counter Strike 2 on recommended High settings, the system crashes to desktop, and at times restarts all together. I tried switching from Balanced to Performance and Unleashed power modes - to no avail.

Switched up my position closer to the Internet router to rule out network buffering issues, even changed the plug point and attached surge protector to eliminate possibility of power inadequacy or voltage fluctuations. Added on a Cooler Master cooling pad to assist with ventilation, checked for any possible obstructions etc. and provided absolute ideal working conditions with the A/C set to 17 degrees with a ceiling fan running at full speed.

With all of these measures, I am still encountering repetitive crashes, the duration of gameplay available varies. Tried loading up another game, same result. Currently, diagnostic checks do not indicate any hardware issues, yet I am quite certain that it is unit specific, since I have all but eliminated every other possible variable at my end.

HP Support is dithering when it comes to a replacement, since they are defending their stance by stating that diagnostics do not return any issues - they are also avoidant and slow in responding to emails or attempt to contact via Call Centre Customer Care.

My Omen Max 16 runs on an Intel Ultra 9 275HX, accompanied by an Geforce RTX 5080 and 64 GB (32x2) Crucial RAM on a stock 1TB SSD.

Any pointers, since I am thoroughly out of alternatives.
