OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 (2B1J9AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So  I have set on my power plans that my laptop has to turn off the screen when it's been 5 minutes idle and to suspend if the idling time is 30 minutes. However, when the screen is turned off, it doesn't turn on again, everything else keeps working (example: music is being played or group call isn't interrupted). Sometimes the computer just doesn't respond anymore and just restarts or I have to shut it down by pressing the power button. In the meantime, I've disabled the option to turn off my screen when my laptop is idling to avoid it to be restarted. Everything is updated, I've been having this issue since I purchased back in 2021 but now this issue is more frequent

Hi @Syrios001,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your laptop restarting or becoming unresponsive when it goes idle. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check for overheating: Overheating can cause laptops to restart or become unresponsive. Make sure your laptop vents are clear of dust and debris, and consider using a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat.
  • Update drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your device drivers and BIOS are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause stability issues. You can usually find driver updates on the HP website.
  • Disable Fast Startup: Sometimes Fast Startup can cause issues with certain hardware configurations. You can disable Fast Startup by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do, and then unchecking the "Turn on fast startup" option.
  • Check for malware: Run a full scan of your system with a reputable antivirus program to check for malware or viruses that could be causing the issue.
  • Power settings: Since you've already adjusted your power settings, try resetting them to default and then configuring them again. Sometimes settings can become corrupted and cause unexpected behavior.
  • Event Viewer: Check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages or warnings that might indicate what's causing the restarts or unresponsiveness. Look for any critical errors around the time the issue occurs.
  • Hardware diagnostics: Run hardware diagnostics to check for any hardware issues. Many laptops have built-in diagnostics tools that you can access during startup by pressing a specific key (often F12 or Esc).

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your laptop restarting or becoming unresponsive when it goes idle.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
