Computer was working and then came back to desk and computer was forcing a restart due to an error (i don't recall which). After an hour the status of the restart on the monitor was still showing 0%.

So hard restarted and now i get no display on monitor although the rig is firing up per normal.

What to do?

Greetings @dcrock18

Welcome to the HP Forum.

I'm guessing your monitor is good to go and connections from the PC to the monitor are secure.

Please clarify the following:

It sounds like your PC was doing an update (Windows or HP??) since you have stated the PC restarted and monitor status was 0% for an hour.

So it looks like the PC was doing video out after the first restart. But after a forced shutdown and a second restart video is now gone. But the PC is powering on.

I don't know for sure, at this time, if your PC has a hardware problem or a bad BIOS update problem. And the troubleshooting options would be different for each scenario.

It would be good to know if an update caused this problem.

You could try disconnecting AC power to the PC. Depress and hold down the PC's power button for about 10 seconds a couple of times to deenergize the MB. Then reconnect to AC power.

Try to start the PC again.

Hello - thanks for the help.

So I should have taken a picture of the error screen code but I did not.

Computer was on , I had just fired it up and it was running for about 5 -10 minutes. I left the room and came back and it had an 'there has been an error and your computer needs to restart' type of message on a blacked out screen. Underneath was a progress bar that sat at 0% forever. That is when I hard turned off the rig. Upon turning it back on I now have no visuals on my monitor. Everything is hooked up as it was. Desktop turns back on as it usually does (fan running, all lights on, etc).

I tried the unplug + press power option a few times and still nothing.

My pleasure.

Yes, it's too bad we don't know what error occurred.

We know the PC has lost video out.

Do you have any keyboard LED activity when the PC is on?  Can you toggle the caps lock LED on and off?

You could try a BIOS recovery drive. Instructions are available Here.

But this option would be a no starter without video out and no USB function.

Try all of the steps listed at the above HP site. The last step at the above site is to try a USB recovery drive.

I' m sorry. But you might have to have a local PC Tech attempt a BIOS flash using a Serial ISP Programmer if the PC lacks: video out and has no USB function due to a corrupted BIOS.

A local PC Tech could also test bench your PC's components to verify all components are in working order.

Or contact HP Support for factory service. You might be able to get warranty service if the PC is in warranty.

But warranty service would be up to HP.

So had a technician in e neighborhood who has a great rep come out and he tested the graphics card, CMOS, we even replaced the motherboard and still nothing. He assumed because the fan and lights were on it was not a PSU issue but never ruled that out formally by testing it, so I've asked him to come back to at least formally rule that out. Any other ideas - for a 2700 rig, this is pretty disappointing after 2.5 years.

If I have to get a new rig, what is best way to get some money back on the graphics card and processor? Or is should i reuse in a new rig (Omen has a very unusal mounting bracket for the 4080).

Any and all ideas would be appreciated. Trying to have the golf simulator ready for holiday visitors in the next 4-5 days.

I can only guess any one of the original core: HP factory components installed the 45L MB would be at fault.

Your neighbor unsuccessfully tried all of the core: HP factory components in a, known good and compatible (correct BIOS version), replacement MB.

So it looks like one of the following core components required to get a good POST is in trouble:

1. One of the HP memory modules

2. The 4080

3. The CPU

4. The power supply

You could sell individual PC components on eBay if you verify they work.

I'm thinking the 4080 mounting bracket would only work with the 45L case. The bracket may not be needed if you use the 4080 in a different build.
