Hi @ImortalKing3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear about the trouble with your Victus by HP 16.1" Gaming Laptop (16-d1 series) after servicing.
From what you’ve described, the system is overheating after changing the thermal paste and thermal pads, which then forces hibernation — a protection mechanism to prevent hardware damage. Here's what might be happening and what you can do:
Possible Causes
- Incorrect Application of Thermal Paste
- Too much or too little paste can reduce thermal conductivity.
- If the paste is not evenly spread or the wrong type is used (non-conductive is a must), temperatures will spike.
- Thermal Pads Misplaced or Wrong Thickness
- Pads with incorrect thickness may prevent proper contact with VRMs or memory chips.
- Pads that are too thick or too thin can reduce pressure on the heatsink, compromising thermal performance.
- Heatsink Not Properly Seated
- After reassembly, the heatsink may not be tightly or evenly screwed back in, reducing cooling efficiency.
- After reassembly, the heatsink may not be tightly or evenly screwed back in, reducing cooling efficiency.
- Fan Not Operating at Full Speed
- BIOS or software fan control settings might be altered.
- If the fan cable was not fully reconnected, it might be underperforming.
Things You Can Check
- Run HWiNFO or CoreTemp to monitor CPU/GPU temps.
- Open Task Manager > Performance tab and keep an eye on temps under idle/load.
- Ensure Fan RPMs are showing reasonable numbers under load (if zero or low, the fan may not be connected correctly).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
