Product: Omen 870-176nc
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys, i have got one problem with my omen 870-176nc. It is overheating when it is underload. I want to ask you if its about bad air flow or if its problem of my machine. Thanks for your early response.

@fmthf, welcome to the forum.

 

According to the Product Specifications page, the computer was released in August, 2016.  Is this the first time it has given you heating problems?  If you haven't done so, a thorogh cleaning inside and outside may help; especially the fans and the air vents.  Be careful when using compressed air on the fans.

Try cleaning everythingsspecially the cpu cooler with compressed air can. And if it doesn't help see how much % cpu your pc is using if it's high try to disable start programs. And if you have stock fans Chang them and change cpu thermal paste.

Hi Fmthf , i would like to share my experience with my omen, i also have thermal issues (well concerns). As you should already know if a cpu is running at high temperatures (above 90 espically) is will shorten the life of the CPU. For my omen 880-112na, that i only brought last months i have noticed that the cpu temperature was hitting in the high 90s and sometimes it does hit 100 degrees during 100% cpu load when rendering in Solidwork. The cpu didn't thermal throttled and stayed at 4.3ghz (i7 8700) as this cpu should do at full load. For me i dont think is the airflow that is causing the thermal issue i think it just the physical air cooler size. the air cooler that come with my omen is even smaller than the stock intel cooler that come with the 7th gen cpus. considering the 8th gen cpus run hotter than the 7th gen (the intel stock cooler should keep them at around 80 at full load - 7th gen cpus-) it no wonder that a even smaller cooler running on a hotter cpu will do any better. My some what a soloution was to buy a decent thermal paste and replace the thermal paste which help me to keep the cpu around 80-90 degrees when at full load. a decent drop in temperature from high 90s. i know this is still far from ideal but it does help a bit.
