Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me out, I've spent a days and days troubleshooting, googling and contacting HP Support about my new (<1 year old) Omen 30L PC. It has a 3080 and a Ryzen 7 5800X.
I recently bought a new 170hz monitor (Gigabyte M27Q) and every single time any game goes above 60fps, the fans start getting really loud instantly, and then the machine restarts itself within 30 secs or so. No error code, no blue screen, no freeze - just shuts down and boots itself up again immediately. I have to set my game settings to cap the FPS at 60 if I want to play them. When I'm not in game, I can run Windows etc. at 170hz with no issues.
I've monitored GPU/CPU temperatures while this is happening (it's very easy to replicate the crash thankfully for testing purposes), and nothing is out of the ordinary at all. The fans spinning very loud and fast before the crash makes me think it's something to do with the GPU but I honestly have no idea. I'll list the things I have tried down below to try and rule out some issues but I'm totally at a loss as to what it could be. Something makes me think it might be the PSU, as the temperatures seem fine but I'm a bit out of my depth in terms of troubleshooting hardware issues.
Things I've done/tried:
- Updated Graphics Drivers
- Updated BIOS from HP's website
- Updated all Windows updates
- Changed the Display Port that the monitor was plugged into on the back of the computer
- Back when I bought the PC I thought the thermals weren't great so I did replace the front and back fan on the machine, I'm not sure if this would have any negative impact, I assume it could only have been a good thing but it's worth noting that they are not stock? Could this be the issue? Could I have maybe messed something up when replacing them? (I feel like it was fairly easy I just took the old ones out and made sure to plug the new ones back into the same part of the motherboard).
When looking at windows Event Viewer, I see the following consistent event with a '!' next to it, so I think that might have something to do with it perhaps?
Thanks so much for any help in advance, this issue has been driving me insane this last week and I feel like I've run out of things to test to see if I can fix this issue!
