Victus gaming laptop, will either freeze, restart, crash without any noticeable cause or pattern. Will do so dozens of times per day. I have re-install Windows 3 times, I have reformatted it 3 times, I have taken it to a repair shop, and I have re-downloaded everything. Nothing has made any difference. The repair shop updated the graphics card, updated the bios, and re-download windoes for a 4th time. It is about 1.5 years old, and I have been having this issue for about 5 months, and the issue has suddenly gotten much worse about 2 months ago. Seems like a product defect at this point, not really sure what else I should do.

Hi @H3b3--__,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding PC crashing and restarting!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with constant crashes and restarts, especially after multiple reinstalls and even taking it to a repair shop. Since there’s no error code or blue screen, the issue could be hardware related. Here are some things you can try:

1. Check for Overheating

  • Monitor Temps: Use HWMonitor or CoreTemp to check CPU/GPU temps. If they exceed 90°C, your laptop may be overheating.
  • Clean the Vents: Dust buildup can cause overheating. Try using compressed air to clean the vents.
  • Undervolt the CPU/GPU: You can try ThrottleStop or MSI Afterburner to lower power consumption slightly and reduce overheating.

2. Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • HP Built-in Diagnostics:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Press F2 repeatedly when turning it on to enter the HP Diagnostic menu.
    3. Run a Full System Test to check for RAM, SSD, CPU, and GPU failures.
  • MemTest86: If the crashes happen randomly, faulty RAM could be the issue. Running MemTest86 overnight can help detect errors.

3. Check the Power Supply & Battery

  • Use a Different Charger: A failing charger or battery can cause unexpected shutdowns.
  • Remove the Battery (if removable): Try running it on AC power only to see if the issue persists.

4. Check Event Viewer for Clues

  • Open Event Viewer (Win + X → Event Viewer).
  • Go to Windows LogsSystem and look for Critical Errors around the time of the crash.
  • If you see Kernel-Power Event 41, it usually points to power issues or overheating.

5. Test the SSD

  • A failing SSD can cause freezing and random reboots.
  • Use CrystalDiskInfo or HP SSD Check to check the drive health.

6. Check for VRM or GPU Issues

  • If the laptop crashes under load (like gaming), the VRMs (voltage regulation modules) could be failing.
  • Underclocking the GPU slightly in MSI Afterburner can help diagnose this.

Let me know if any of these help or if you need more troubleshooting steps! 😊
