The motherboard adverises 2666 but will only go up to 2133. Will only go up to 2666 with the hp hyperx RAM that came with the desktop, I even tried buying an extra hyperx fury RAM stick but no, it gets stuck at 2133, the new RAM is corsair vengeance 3000 cas 15 and the same thing is happening i even tried restoring and erasing everything on the desktop but nothing is anyone else having issues please help

You have a 16 GB stick and wanted to upgrade to 32GB I assume.

Yep, I've seen this time and time again. That's why I always tell everyone the sticks need to match exactly or else errors exactly like this can happen. Even though you put another HyperX stick in, if the two models don't match exactly, the motherboard might down-clock the whole set to the SPD fail safe boot speed which is probably 2133 MHz rated for those sticks (set at their MFG's factory).

Its a total waste to install anything over 2666Mhz ram on an HP as you cannot overclock it in the locked down HP Bios. It will probably also revert to its rated SPD fail safe boot speed and stay.

Even if you buy a matched set of 2666 ram, there are some ram sticks that the bios doesn't like for what ever reason and they get down-clocked.  There is no setting you can change to fix it.

I always suggest Crucial Memory Finder because they guarantee theirs to work or your money back. But don't go over 2666 MHz.

I made a list of the ones Crucial says will work for your Obelisk at (2x16)32GB 2666MHz as an example if you need it.
