I have a omen 30l, 5800x with a RTX3080. Motherboard Hana, 8876.

Product id: Edited

I did a bios update that was listed when searching on my product. The latest bios f23 rev. A. The update went fine. But now after the update I get random freezes and or random reboots. Even when doing nothing. The computer can boot into windows and just seconds later it freezes or reboots. Sometimes it can run for 30min and then random freeze. Just browsing or sitting at desktop. I have tried a complete wipe and new install of windows, still same. I've tried another PSU, still same. It's not a heat issue, cuz i checked the sensors with hwinfo64 and the sidepanel is off. This began after the bios update, so must be something with that bios. Unfortunately HP doesn't allow a bios rollback for some not very obvious reason. It would be of imense help when troubleshooting. So I'm at a loss here, right now i have a potato on my desk. Please help, let me revert to a older bios version

Hi @DalleV1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The random freezes and reboots on your OMEN 30L began after updating to BIOS F.23 Rev.A, and this version has been linked to instability and overheating issues on Hana 8876 motherboards. A rollback isn’t officially supported, but there are steps you can take to stabilize the system.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of what’s happening and how to move forward:

What’s Likely Causing the Issue

  • BIOS F.23 Rev.A has triggered instability on multiple OMEN 30L systems with Hana 8876 boards. Users report symptoms like yours—random freezes, reboots, and even overheating—even when idle.
  • Rollback is blocked on HP consumer desktops, especially when Secure Boot or firmware protection is active. This limits options for reverting to F.22.

What You Can Do Now

1. Reset BIOS Settings to Defaults

Even if the update went smoothly, residual settings may be misaligned:

  • Power off the system.
  • Tap Esc repeatedly at startup → choose F10 for BIOS Setup.
  • Press F9 to load defaults → then F10 to save and exit.

This clears any lingering configuration conflicts.

2. Disable Fast Boot and C-State Control

These settings can cause instability post-update:

  • In BIOS Setup, go to Advanced → Power Management.
  • Disable Fast Boot and C-State Control.
  • Save and exit.

3. Update Chipset and Graphics Drivers

Even after a clean Windows install, BIOS changes may require updated drivers:

4. Check for UEFI Diagnostics

Run HP’s built-in diagnostics to rule out hardware faults:

  • Tap Esc at startup → choose F2 for diagnostics.
  • Run System Test → Extensive Test.
  • You’ve already ruled out PSU and thermal issues, which is excellent.
  • Keeping the side panel off helps with airflow, but BIOS-level instability isn’t resolved by cooling alone.
  • If you’re comfortable with advanced steps, I can guide you through checking event logs or disabling TPM temporarily to test boot behavior.

Let me know how it goes after resetting BIOS settings and updating drivers.

I've done the bios reset. That didn't make any difference.

In the bios I dont have a "advanced section".

I've reinstalled Windows and used all the latest drivers from hp. I searched drivers for 8CG1284HL4. That didn't help.

I did a clean install from usb with Microsoft Windows 11 install tool. That also didn't help.

When i check event viewer i get kernel error 41(63). Which typicly points in the PSU direction.

Feels like this bios is feeding the cpu with to high voltage or something.

Clearly there's issues with the latest F23 bios. Please HP do something. Let us revert to previous version or make a new one that corrects whatever misstake was made in F23. Cuz right now my PC is not usable, it's just a big heavy papperweight. Seriously, i mean it. This cost me a fortune

Ok. Now i've done some really extensive troubleshooting. I moved all parts to another motherboard, a gigabyte b550 auorus pro ac. And I get the exact same result. Freezing and reebots. So i tried different gpu:s, other ram, other psu, clean install. Nothing. Only thing that worked was lowering the multiplier to x35 and that is below default for 5800x and now it works.

Everything I described — same freezing in two systems, stable only when underclocked — aligns 99 % with a degraded or defective 5800X that the Omens poor thermals likely cooked over time.
