So! I just bought this brand new HP omen PC (last one they had!) and it ran beautifully on the first night, no issues whatsoever. Within a day I started getting mysterious crashes every time I'd start gaming. Only with steam games does this seem to be an issue (Minecraft with shaders and many performance boggers runs beautifully), but I enter an instance, and sound briefly glitches out while the screen goes black. PC disconnects from the monitor and is not recognizable again until I hard restart the PC - all the while, I can still hear audio playing from Spotify, but not the game.

My attempts to remedy this issue:
- the obvious unplugging and replugging in of things
- updated BIOS
- updated video drivers
- uninstalled the Omen Gaming Hub
- ran HP diagnostic scans on various things, VRAM interestingly caused the screen to bug out, flash and glitch during the scan
- turned off full-screen optimizations for games in Windows
- used NVDIA GE force experience to optimize game settings

Turning off VSync in the games I was crashing in seemed to halt the issue, and so I assumed that was the culprit and haven't screwed with drivers or settings since, and have been gaming fine for a week... until earlier tonight, when I randomly started crashing again every time I tried to join a lobby. Games will launch, but as soon as an instance begins, it black screens and is unrecognizable by the monitor again. The only time this occurs is while attempting to enter a game lobby for various games; Smite 1, Marvel Rivals. So I delved deeper and have spent another 5 hours straight pulling out my hair over this, trying these things now:

- Turned off all gaming overlays, and optimized games to be in borderless window. No change
- Used  sfc /scannow to scan and repaired 4 corruptions
- Updated Wifi/Bluetooth drivers
- Investigated some suspect errors in the event viewer from the same times as the crashes, observing:
* DistributedCOM 10016
* Kernel-Power 41
* EventLog 6008
The errors did not feel descriptive enough, and although I set my crash dumps to be complete rather than mini, they are not being generated for these crashes - utilizing WhoCrashed I found nothing recent, however these two errors which occurred BEFORE I purchased my brand new PC the other week might provide some insight, so I'll include them at the end. If any other info is needed from me to help diagnose this issue I'm happy to provide it. My next instinct is to pop open the PC and start reseating things, but I'm no expert on that front, so I'm a bit nervous to do it without someone who knows what they're doing to help.

Should I just take this thing back into the MediaMarkt though? It was the last one they had and I got it for a great deal here. I just moved to Portugal and don't speak very good Portuguese, but I've read many awful experiences about things being even more broken upon letting them fix products taken in under warranty. Any advice would be much appreciated on how I could go about better diagnosing and solving this issue myself or via HP unless absolutely necessary, especially if replacing faulty parts is the only answer.

It's also possible that your graphics hardware was non-functional or overheated.

Bug check description:The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. This could be caused by either a non-responding driver or non-responding hardware. This bug check can also occur because of overheated CPUs (thermal issue).
Analysis:This is likely caused by a hardware problem, but there is a possibility that this is caused by a misbehaving driver.
This bugcheck indicates that a timeout has occurred. This may be caused by a hardware failure such as a thermal issue or a bug in a driver for a hardware device.

Welcome to the HP Forum. 

 

You have done great troubleshooting.

 

Windows and all drivers are up to date.

 

I would guess your new PC may have: a hardware problem or a thermal problem.

 

My advice is to return the PC for a refund.

 

I'm pretty sure I would do a refund.

 

You could download and run FurMark win64 (Zip). Unzip the download.

 

Run the Benchmark test and then do the extended "Run" test to check the graphics card.

 

Finally run the "CPU Burner" test to check the CPU.
