HP Omen PC - Installing SSD

Hi There

I got 1tb Samsung 860 evo sata m.2 and plugged it under video card. Now I cant see the new ssd  either in my pc or in boot options. 

Any help?

Just to clarify, you have the 870-244, not the 870-244nd correct?

IF so, the 870-244 comes with the Thimphu-K motherboard and it uses an M keyed M.2 port for NVMe.

The Omen 870 series in my opinion was an odd duck. Even though some of those models came with the Thimphu-K mobo which had an M.2 port, HP didn't install M.2 drives in them. They would still use conventional 2.5 inch Sata SSDs.

When ever I see a board like yours that has an M keyed M.2 port (NVMe, not Sata), I recommend you only use an NVMe drive.

Even though your Samsung has both B+M keys, that board might not like it and thus wont recognize it.

Before you buy an NVMe drive, try this first....

Boot into Windows from the HDD and go into Disk Management. See if the Samsung drive is showing at all. It might be there but show as not initialized yet. If so, you can initialize it and format it. If that works, then you can disconnect the HDD and try installing Windows to the SSD now. Otherwise there wont be anything else you can do, you will have to use an NVMe drive.

So, It is not nd , mine is just 870-244

Coming to HDD boot up,  Samsung 860 evo is not even shown, not in boot and not in manage.

**bleep**, I just got 1TB 860 evo from store today ($125).

I guess I need to return it for NVMe M.2.

Here is my motherboard snap, Red box is what I used to insert evo 860 and It will be same for NVMe, correct if am wrong. What about the green box, what connector is that?

Yes, the M.2 slot is M keyed for NVMe. You had the right slot, wrong drive.

The green highlighted connector is a PCIe x4 slot. You could for example, plug in a PCIe Wifi adapter there.
