Product: Example: OMEN 27i Monitor
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought my son an Omen 27i Monitor as his gaming laptop was only 60Mhz capable. He claims, because the FPS counter within the games he runs, he isn't getting the performance expected from the external monitor. It is my belief that the FPS counter is showing the capability of his gaming laptop / GPU and the actual performance is better. The Omen 27i monitor can display the framerate but it does so only from a capability perspective, i.e. it shows 144. Is there a way to measure the actual performance of the monitor during gameplay?

   (a) How does he connect to his machine ?

   (b) What IS his machine )model/product).

Thanks....His laptop has a thunderbolt port so cable runs to Monitors DisplayPort.

Two things.  If he has a nvidia gpu open nvidia control panel go to resolution and check/set his refresh rate.  Then download Fraps. That or enable something like steam overlay and monitor your fps.  But as long as you make sure his refresh rate is set he will be ok.
