Pavilion Gaming R5 AMD ryzen 5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I recently purchased this gaming PC, TG01-0023w, the Pavilion R5 with the Ryzen 5, I already installed one 2 TB hdd using the open cage but was wondering if I could install a second internal HDD and if so, how would that be done? What would I need to purchase in order to mount the second hard drive inside?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

@ATAGORE,

This video shows the 2 HD mounting locations.

There are only 3 SATA data ports. One is occupied by the DVD SATA data lead. See detailed photo.

Hi,

You have a B550 motherboard. The B550 can provide up to six SATA ports.

HP specs for your PC (Link) don't show a motherboard (MB) image so I don't know what HP provides.

You need an open SATA port on the MB and a spare power supply SATA connection to add another HDD. And you need a place to secure the second HDD in the chassis.

You may have to replace the existing 2 TB HDD with a larger capacity HDD if the above conditions are false.

Regards

hi

You have already installed another hard drive, as you indicate, and with some documents it looks like you only have one slot available.
Is that the question?
from what i saw it doesn't seem to be possible to add another one, unless hp provide another cage for this model, but i doubt it, do you think there is enough space ?

For sata or other ports, the Hp document here must match:

If you have the possibility (connectors available) on the other hand see if you can perhaps find a small place for a small SATA SSD, it might be easier!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, there are sata ports and power is good but I don't know where another 3.5 hdd would go or what parts I would need to place one in there. Do you know of any drive cage that I could put in there that would have 2 bays and fit my pc?

I already had this second internal hdd which is why I was trying to put it in my pc as opposed to an ssd but maybe down the line I'll just get a big ssd for additional storage.

Thanks for the info. My pc does not have a dvd drive.

Do you know of a cage that can hold two hdds for my of? If so where I could find it?

Thanks again.

@wb2001  gave you a link to the parts locator for your model. Scroll down to System Views and click on Internal view.

It will show you how two HDDs are mounted. One in the cage, the second mounted below the first against the back of the front panel of the case.

Unless you are trying to mount a 3rd HDD?

Ohhhh, I did not even realize this. Thank you for clarifying! So I would just screw the second hard drive against the panel then? I'll give that a try now. Thanks again!

@ATAGORE   Correct.

Thanks so much everyone. I was able to screw the second hdd on to the inside of the case. Worked perfectly. I've never used one of these forums before and I'm new to working on the insides of the computer so thanks again, really appreciate your help.
