I have a pre-built HP Omen Desktop PC with a Naples 8308 motherboard, and an i5-7400. Its a few years old now. I was looking to replace the CPU with an i7-7700 and tried installing a used one that a friend sent me, but the PC wouldn't boot. I've put the i5 back and it works, so I didn't break anything.
According to the HP website, the i7-7700 should be compatible with the Naples 8308, so what is most likely to be the issue? Would I need to do a BIOS update for it to work, or is it more likely the i7-7700 I have is faulty?

@daveof91 , welcome to the Community.
You are correct that the i7-7700 should be compatible. It should not require a BIOS update to work. The only thing that I can suggest is to make certain you have applied enough thermal paste to the processor. If this doesn't work, it may be a failed processor.
