I am having issues upgrading from the stock RAM to some Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Kingston-FURY-Beast-16GB-2x16GB-6000MT-s-DDR5-CL36-Desktop-Memory-AMD-EXPO-Plug-N-Play-Kit-of-2-KF560C36BBE2K2-32/9605705096). I am able to boot it with one original stick and a new stick in slot 1 and 3 via this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/1kauv2o/ram_upgrade_issues_omen_40l/

but am unable to get it to boot via the first slot only, new ram slot 3 and 4 and old ram slot 1 and 3. The RAM is good since I was able to swap sticks and it works with either stick in slot 3 but an original stick must be in slot 1. I had a similar issue earlier this year but was way too busy to troubleshoot so I just returned the sticks. My warranty out so HP seems useless now. Any advice would be appreciated. Please do not tell me to return the new sticks.

@matto16324,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Unfortunately, it pains me to say it, but I'll have to tell you that the Kingston FURY Beast 6000 MHz DDR5 kit is likely not compatible with your OMEN 40L GT21-1304. The HP motherboard and BIOS in this model officially support DDR5-5200 MHz (and in some cases 5600 MHz), but not 6000 MHz. This is why I believe the system won't boot or won't recognize the modules properly, unless you are able to get your XMP to run this RAM at its SPS (default) 4800 MHZ speed -but that appears to be problematic for some reason.

The fastest any RAM will run in your system appears to be 5200 MHz (using HP-branded Kingston RAM with p/n: HP52U40S8HM-16FRA or Kingston Fury KF552C40BBAK2-16 (5200 MHz) as seen here: UserBenchmark: HP OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop GT21-1xxx Compatible Components.

Why it fails:

  • The OMEN 40L GT21-series uses an HP-OEM motherboard with no XMP/EXPO support for 6000 MHz speeds.

  • HP documentation and memory-compatibility lists for this platform all cap memory at 5200–5600 MT/s, not 6000.

  • Many users who tried DDR5-6000 kits reported the same issue: no POST or forced downclocking.

What will work:

  • Use DDR5-5200 (best compatibility) or DDR5-5600 (if the specific kit is listed as compatible for the 40L).

  • Kingston, Crucial, and other vendors list 5200–5600 kits as supported for the 40L GT21-1xxx/2xxx series.

Recommendation:

Even if you can't return the 6000 MHz kit, replace it with a DDR5-5200 (or HP-listed 5600) 2×16 GB kit. That will boot and run normally.

Kind Regards,
