Hi @Wolfka,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the BIOS update failed for a variety of reasons, but it’s good to hear your PC is still running fine. Here are some possible reasons why the BIOS update failed and how you can troubleshoot.

Incorrect BIOS Update File

Even though you used the HP app to find the correct BIOS file, there’s a chance the downloaded file could have been corrupted or there was an error in the process. Double-check that you have the latest BIOS version listed for your exact model.

Incompatible BIOS Version

Ensure that the BIOS update is compatible with your system's hardware version. Sometimes, an update may not work if there are significant changes in hardware configuration (e.g., a new CPU, RAM, etc.).

Interruptions During Update

A failed BIOS update can happen if the process was interrupted. This could happen due to a power failure, accidental shutdown, or hardware issues. Always ensure that your PC is plugged in and has a stable power supply during BIOS updates.

Update Method

Ensure that the BIOS update was done through the correct method. If you're using the HP BIOS Update and Recovery tool or updating via the UEFI interface (which is often recommended for BIOS updates), try again with that method.

UEFI Settings

Sometimes, UEFI settings can block BIOS updates. Ensure that Secure Boot is disabled and that there are no settings preventing the BIOS update in the UEFI menu. You can check this by entering BIOS setup at startup (usually pressing F10 or ESC).

BIOS Recovery

Some HP systems have a built-in recovery option for BIOS corruption. If your BIOS update failed, you might be able to restore it to a working version using HP's BIOS recovery process.

What you can try:

  1. Retry the Update: If you're sure the file is correct, try running the update again, making sure all other apps are closed and no background processes are interfering.
  2. Clear the CMOS: Reset your BIOS by clearing the CMOS (usually involves removing the battery for a few minutes or using the reset jumper on the motherboard).
  3. Use USB Recovery: Download the BIOS update to a USB stick and update via the UEFI BIOS setup utility. This method bypasses the OS and can sometimes help resolve issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
