Hi.

I used to work on PCs but it has been a long time.  I am trying to upgrade the performance of my son's computer.

I recently had the stock setup:

AMD Ryzen 5 1400 / 3.2 GHz

AMD Radeon RX 580

8GB

 

I upgraded to 16GB memory which made a significant difference to gaming.  What is the next upgrade to make?

Go to a AMD Ryzen7-1700 (Summit Ridge) 3.0 GHz, 8 cores/16 threads or upgrade the graphics?  And if the graphics, what card?  Do I need to be concerned with the power supply?

Many thanks for any help you can offer to one who has been out of the game for a while...

It all depends on the games used, but for some games, a graphics card of this type could be sufficient.

So you have to look at the requirements of the games, in order to choose a good graphics card.

It will be necessary to check the dimensions of the chosen graphics card, too large, it may not fit
It is also necessary to check whether one or two additional pci power connectors are needed, and therefore if present at the power supply unit.
