Upgrades/Replacements for Omen 870-224

I was wondering what is the upgrades/replacements I can do on my Omen desktop 870-224? Also, is it possible to install a  liquid cooler for my CPU if not what is an optimal upgrade for a CPU Cooling Fan

@Nightblue7 , welcome to the forum.

I will begin by stating the obvious!  You have a small mid-size case.  The more that you install in it, the more heat the components will cause.  Therefore, you have to be cautious.

Now with that said, you can upgrade your processor to an i7-7700.  It will be a good boost in speed.  You can upgrade the memory to 16 GB.  Look at the sections titled "Processor upgrade information" and Memory upgrade information" to see this information.

It will tell you what you have to consider when upgrading the video card.  The power supply unit (PSU) in your computer is 500W.  This should be enough for a good upgrade to what you are running.  The guide will help you with this, also.

Last, but maybe best, you can upgrade to a SSD boot drive.  Here are the SSD's and memory recommend by Crucial Memory:  https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/omen-870-224

I like MSI products.  I suggest that you take a look at the GTX 1660:  https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-gtx-1660-gtx-1660-ventus-xs-6g-oc/p/N82E16814137400?&quicklink=tr...

You should read the Reviews to see what owners have to say about it and the Specifications section, also.  Your PSU is very close to the minimum this may be a concern.

As for liquid cooling, I suggest a Corsair H60 AIO.  However, you should contact Corsair's Tech Support to make certain that it will be compatible with your motherboard.

I have the same PC and am trying to upgrade it as well. I've already upgraded to 32GB of RAM using https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820156086 .

A user in that thread said they used a Corsair H60 liquid cooler but had to case mod to get it to fit...I'm not looking to do any modding so I got the EVO 212 cooler as per the suggestion in that thread. I guess I'll know if it fits in about a week but let me know if you found one that's better.

As for graphics cards, I'm looking to eventually get a 2060 Super but will need to upgrade the PSU for that as well.

Also looking to upgrade to an SSD and it seems like I'll have to replace the HDD in order to do so.

HP have their own version of AIO created specifically for this desktop, its of course Asetek 120mm, but it has specials spacers between the radiator and the case so that will fit the 90mm mounting holes, just check ebay, there a a few for sale at the moment, that would be your best choice.

So if I were to go with the AIO, I would remove the exhaust fan and replace it with the one that comes with the AIO and it should fit no problem? Also, I know other Omen's had the AIO that came with it but not this one (870-224) so I'm not sure if it is supposed to fit.

Yes, but only if you get the HP AIO's, the ones that are designed for this case, not sure what the exact part number is, but probably some of the experts here can advise on that.

Yea so I am returning the Evo 212 (too tall for the case anyway) and ordered the Asetek  https://www.diypc.com/components/fan-ase-550lca?gclid=Cj0KCQjw1qL6BRCmARIsADV9JtYkHVP5-g4Di7189qLytu...

The microcenter PC you linked is an upgraded version of the one I have (870-281 vs 870-224) but they're both 870's so I'm hoping it will work out.

Ugh...I thought I could save about $500 upgrading this prebuilt instead of building my own but not sure the hassle is worth it...already bought the processor, RAM and now cooler though so no going back now.

If you want to do an air cooling solution, I can recommend the Big Shuriken 3, and it will fit in your case.

But if you want an AIO, I would try to buy one of the ones that HP has for this specific case. there are several on ebay, but maybe part.hp.com are also selling them, check them out by the part number I posted before.
