Hi @DavidSprung

My pleasure.

HP specs state you have a ATX PSU, 150 mm width, 86 mm height, and typically 140 mm depth. Or 5.9 inches, 3.9 inches, 5.5 inches respectively.

Measure your PSU to verify ATX standard. Buy a power supply having the same measurements as your PSU.

You will have a PSU upgrade problem if the HP power supply is not ATX.

Hi @DavidSprung

Welcome to the HP Forum.

It is tough to recommend a graphics card upgrade without knowing your expectations. I don't know what you want to do with the new graphics card.

I can give some general thoughts on your question.

Your PC has a ATX 300 watt power supply. This will limit graphics card upgrade options unless you upgrade the power supply.

Your PC has an RX 580R graphics card which is a dual slot card at 7 inches in length. You would have to calculate the remaining distance from the end of the 580 to the chassis. You might be able to do a 9.5 inch to 10 inch card in your case.

Your PC has a i5-6400. This would put a performance drag on a high end graphics card.

My goal is the get the best performance in gaming as possible. If I would switch to a better power supply how much watt would you recommend?

Hi @DavidSprung

Given your PC's case constraints with respect to graphics cards you could do a AMD 6700 XT at around 9.5 inches to possibly 10 inches. The 6700 XT fairs well against an Nvidia 3600, 3600 TI, and 4060.

You would have to check the length of the perspective card you are considering to verify the card fits in the case. I can't say if an AMD 6800, or equivalent 7000 series AMD graphics cards, or Nvidia 3070 and above cards will fit in your case.

The 6700 XT requires a minimum 550 watt PSU and needs two 6 + 2 PCIe power connections to the card from the power supply.

The 6700 XT does good 1080p gaming and can do 1440p gaming. The 6700 XT does not do Nvidia DLSS and has limited Ray Tracing capabilities.

You also have to verify the new PSU required to run a 6700 XT or better graphics card fits in your PC's case.

Find a graphics card you like. Get the card measurements to see if it will fit in your case. Check card specs to see what power supply is needed to run the card. Find the correct PSU that fits in your case. I usually over spec the power supply to allow for future upgrades.

Thanks. But do all psus have the same proportions since I dont have that much space in my computer. I was looking at buying a 3060 and for that i would need a 550 watt power supply. So are there 550 watt psus that are the same size as my current psu?
