I am only able to use 4gb if ram when i have 8 installed and i have updated my bios and drivers

Hello @Oumpkin 

 

Are you the original owner or did you get this PC used and it was this way? If new, did you do any changes to it?

 

Please go to All Settings > System > About (on the bottom left side of the window).

Under Device specifications > System type, does it say 32-bit or 64-bit Windows?

 

If for some reason 32bit was installed, it wont show more than 4GB and windows would have to be reinstalled.

 

If 64bit is showing, you most likely have a hardware issue since everything is up to date. Either the ram or the slot on the motherboard is bad.

Things to try...

  • Re-seat the ram stick.
  • Pull the stick and put it in the other slot.
  • If you have another stick that meets the DDR4 specs between 8-16GB, replace the existing stick with that one.
