Pavilion 790-0077c
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP gaming Desktop. Pavilion 790-00c. It came with an I7-8700 cpu on the motherboard. Can I replace it with an i7 8700K cpu? Unlike most other HP machines I have there is nothing in any of the documentation I have found that indicates any sort of upgrade path. On anything.  Thank you guys for all the work you do in this forum

@bladerunner1954 , welcome back to the Community.  You are welcome!  I speak for all of the Experts when I say it is our pleasure to be able to help you.

Here is the Motherboard Specifications page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-desktop-pc-790-0000i/20395823/document/c0600...

If you look at the section titled "Processor upgrade information" you will see that the i7-8700K is not listed.  Therefore, you won't be able to install it.  The BIOS/UEFI would have to be modified for overclocking.
