 Hello, 

Does anyone know if my hp omen 870 116na can be upgraded from core i5 6400 to core i7 7700? It is hard to purchase 6700 nowdays. But if 7700 and 6700 are indentical, not sure if it can work

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

 

Your PC's motherboard uses the Intel H170 chipset. This chipset does support 7th gen Intel processors such as the 7700.

 

But HP only validated 6th gen processors for your PC's motherboard; i7-6700, i5-6400, and i3-6100.

 

HP would have to provide updated BIOS microcode to see the 7700.

 

There is a BIOS update for your PC (Link) but the fixes don't mention adding support for additional processors.

You can wait for an HP employee to respond with a reply that you want but it won't happen.

 

They would only respond with the same solution that @Grzwacz offered.

 

As you can see from your CPU upgrade list there are no 7th gen CPU's listed.
