calls from windows ?

Getting call from people claiming to be from windows and saying my pc is sending them messages about infections etc, also claim my Norton software doesn't pick this up. Checking event viewer there are a lot of warnings etc. Is this just another scam or is there a problem with pc ?

Microsoft does not call users to tell them anything, let alone that they are infected.

There are hundreds of scammers out there claiming to be from Windows, etc.

Dont indulge them. Event viewer will have warnings, does not mean you are infected.

Guess as much but how do they get your license number and contact details, also can tell you are online.

Contacted HP support and they said my operating system was corrupted with malware / virus. 

Contacted Norton to remove 2 infections . Still at a loss how they get through

Granted the best antivirus is you, your habits and what you allow onto your machine...

A suggestion: The best way to put your mind at ease (if you're up to it), is to wipe your OS and reinstall it. That way, if you have something on there that's malicious that you don't know about, this will wipe it clean for sure.

The best way to do this is to create your HP USB Recovery Media onto a blank 16 or 32GB USB pen drive. The USB method will wipe the entire drive and reinstall the system as it came from factory. You would have to reinstall any programs or games that you have on it now. Also backup any data to another physical drive, it you haven't already.

Note that this is the HP Recovery, not the Microsoft Recovery media. They both are Windows, but the HP Recovery is how it came from the factory originally.

Insert the blank USB drive into a USB port.

Go to Start/HP Help and Support/HP Recovery Media Creation and open it.

Follow the prompts to create the USB media.
