I have had my HP omen 15 gaming laptop (2020) for around 2 and a half years. On monday of this week, I noticed the fans began to get louder, and the laptop ran hot when idle. I figured this was a dust build up issue. I opened the laptop, removed the fans and the heatsink, and cleaned the dust from both of them. After this, the problem persisted and the laptop would randomly crash. Two days ago, I received the error "Boot Device Not Found". I tried to install a new operating system on the laptop with a flashdrive. This worked, as I am now able to use the laptop. However, it says I have no free disc space, and shows my new hard drive as only having 26 gb total storage (25 of which are taken up by the os itself). It is almost as if my pc recognizes the external flash drive I used to install windows as it's internal hard drive. The laptop should have an internal 500gb SSD. I have no idea what caused this problem or how to fix it. Next week is my finals week in college, and I have a horribly running laptop that has no free disk space. Should I send it in to get repaired? What do I even tell them happened, or what this issue is? Is my SSD just broken? How does that even happen? Any help is greatly appreciated.
