Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Tried upgrading the ram on this computer using TWO 16gig sticks (G.Skill AEGIS 32 288-PIN DDR SDRAM 2666 (PC4 21300) ( Model # F4-2666C19D-32GIS) ) but the computer keeps freezing when i run both sticks at the same time. Has this happened to anybody else? is this a bad stick? or bad slot?  When i run them one stick at a time, it's stable and the computer does not freeze. I've tested this with each iteration ( each stick in a different slot, and vice versa) I've seen other people post that they've had success with two (16g) sticks on this motherboard, so not sure if it's necessarily a motherboard/cpu issue. 

 

Below is the HP guide to this computer's memory upgrade. i match all those criteira. 

Memory upgrade information

  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports up to PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    NOTE: 
    32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 32 GB (with two 16 GB modules) and 16 GB (with two 8 GB modules) on 64-bit computers
    NOTE: 
    Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system

@pan21 , welcome to the forum.

 

The specifications that you provided definitely state that the motherboard supports 32 GB with 2x16 GB modules.  HP motherboards can be a bit picky when it comes to using fast, gaming, memory.  I suggest that you contact G. Skills Tech Support for help.  They will be able to help with any known compatibility problems with HP motherboards.

Ever been on a dead-end ride?

G.Skill does not have a memory configuration menu for HP product motherboards.
