OMEN by HP 875-1000 Obelisk Desktop PC (3VH40AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

just a heads up i'm relatively new to gaming PC

so I own one of the old version of the HP omen and i wondered about the lifespan of my computer? as i have noticed by time my computer does get a bit hotter and louder, and with my warranty ended I was wondering if I'm able to optimise my PC so it may last longer?

such as I have noticed the stock hardware aren't very long lasting according to the community such as my graphics card does not have an inbuilt fan like most on the market (just has a green circuit board on the top)

like am I able to replace my graphics card for better ones, like the 30 series graphics cards?

thanks in advance for your help and sorry for my bad English

Hello @D-Lucifer

Best practice

Prevent (permanent) overheating and perform hardware test !

- In most cases, the CPU tends to overheat

(1) Install and start <Open Hardware Monitor>

https://openhardwaremonitor.org/

- take screenshot after a few minutes <idle>

- take screenshot after a few minutes <gaming/working>

Guides:

https://www.buildcomputers.net/cpu-temperature.html

https://techguided.com/safe-cpu-temp/

(2) Monitor GPU

https://www.howtogeek.com/784198/how-to-monitor-your-computers-gpu-temperature/

(3) Test your hardware Using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04499777

See how it works:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14GKIpGPNRM

(4) In case of high temperatures, even when <idle>

- The computer should be disassembled and checked.
- Thermal paste for CPU / GPU and bridges must be renewed
- The function of the fan(s) must be checked

- power supply test / CMOS battery check

- General cleaning ...

Good luck

hi

we have already talked about the temperature problem here

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/How-To-Clean-and-Maintain-My-De...
so to answer the question if need to change the graphics card

like am I able to replace my graphics card for better ones, like the 30 series graphics cards?

if it is still this computer

https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c06384677

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6 GB)

"

such as my graphics card does not have an inbuilt fan like most on the market (just has a green circuit board on the top)"

a doubt because you normally have this, a good graphics card, and I am surprised that there is not a ventilation system
but just see, power supply

Internal PSU 500 W

you cannot install a card that is too powerful, manufacturer requirement to be checked according to the model

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-obelisk-desktop-pc-875-1000i/25644598/model/38225652...

you have more efficient models here rtx 2xxx version
So provided that the rtx 3xxx card has an equivalent consumption, it is possible, but if not, it will be necessary to change the power supply box
Attention, because the case  here, is certainly not spacious which says more powerful card, too big, bad ventilation, possible overheating

Who says modification says risk of loss of the guarantee
so see if it can last, contact the after-sales service, if the computer overheats abnormally despite everything that has been indicated
And see this after the end of warranty

Hello Prométhée,

so are you saying that the 2060 graphics card I have is abnormal? because it doesn't have the fan? (image shown below)

pic.jpg

but mainly i am not aware of the size of the PCU that i have (as it does not say on the spec and it is taking up all the space from both side of the frame) and if i am to install 700+ PCU my computer Case may not be big enough right?

Hello Ub6424, thanks for the tips I will look into it as soon as possible.

hello

yes you are right i looked beneath it and there is a fan and its pointing towards the Powers supply unit. is this dangerous should I flip it right side up?? (but the Text "GeForce RTX" is right side up how does that make sense if the graphics card is upside down?)

also i am aware of the size and spec of the graphics card (2060) but cant find the measurements of my 500w PSU as on the spec it just says:

Internal PSU 500 W

  • total wattage: 500 W
  • Full range: 115 V/230 V
  • Efficiency: Bronze

this is because to check if I need an new case to fit in new hardware

HP Recommended

you can't do this, the video card must be in the possible direction

"this is because to check if I need an new case to fit in new hardware"

if you want to replace the case, the tower, you may encounter some problems

check @old_geekster 's kb

Moving HP Motherboard to a new gaming case

and as long as you do, install a more powerful power supply, adapted to the new case
